About the house

We have created a home that stands the test of time and reflects the character of its' owners.

The design has influences of our eclectic style with a sense of purpose and energy.

Our house speaks the language of English decoration in all its eccentric, comfortable and faded glory with high quality bedding, toiletries, food and service.

Established as an Inn in 1752, the house then consisted of a Bar, Tap Room,

Dining Room, Larder, Kitchen, a Drawing Room and seven good Bedrooms.

There were four large Underground Cellars, a Courtlage,

two Pig Houses and Stables for 30 Horses with Lofts over.

There was also a good Bowling Alley adjoining the Courtlage.

The house now provides a homely Bed & Breakfast with a public Drawing Room,

Breakfast Kitchen, four well appointed Bedrooms and a Courtyard Garden.

There is an old scullery and stables in the lower ground floor available for bicycle storage.

Our bedrooms are individually decorated with comfort and cleanliness our priority.

All of our bedrooms offer full length mirrors, radios and fresh coffee & tea trays.

One Drake Road is located a two minute walk from the Tavistock Town Hall

and famous pannier market and a short walk to the picturesque Dartmoor National Park.

There are eight on-street parking spaces in front of the house available for free from

5pm to 10am and all day Sunday plus one hour of free parking during the day.

(Subject to availability)

The infamous naval City of Plymouth is 12 miles away where main line trains

from Paddington London stop alongside regular coaches from London Victoria.

Torquay on the English Riviera is a mere 28 miles from Tavistock.

Tavistock also has very good road links to Exeter International Airport.

Some recent reviews...

“The hosts made us feel so welcome. It was a delight to spend some time in the lounge with

an open fire. Furnished to a very high standard with an excellent breakfast. Ideal base for

spending time in Tavistock and surrounding area”

“A warm and friendly home from home. Delicious freshly cooked breakfast, complete with homemade mince pies (still warm from the oven). Fab location - really close to the centre of Tavistock”

"We only stayed for one night but if we come back to Tavistock again, we would definitely

stay here again. The owners, Iain and Jack, made us very welcome. The bedrooms were comfortable,

the lounge is stunning and the breakfast was fantastic"

“We were made most welcome by Iain and Jack. They told us of local events and where to go.

Breakfast was a delight in a most warm atmosphere."

"Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel so at home.  The little touches also

show how much Iain & Jack love what they do.  For example chocolate bunnies left on our bed

on arrival was just one.  The quality of everything is clear to see, from the bedding used through

to the bread used at breakfast.  This place is one of my favourite places to stay, we both loved it

and cannot wait for an excuse to go back."
